While exploring the grid and hopping from one random landmark to another, I stumbled across Hivemind, a technourban store filled with accessories—some practical, but many completely off-the-wall (who doesn’t want a taco avatar that poops ice cream?).
Of the items in the store, I most contemplated buying the Weighted Companion Cube . I dig having a place to rest after a long day of shopping and exploration.
Here are the three Hivemind Cubes for purchase:
There’s one on display to try out.

Then today, while browsing the fashion feeds, I saw this blog entry showing what I thought to be the same cube. As soon as I read it was a freebie from Neurotic (I had forgotten Hivemind’s store name at the time), I jumped to the SLURL to grab it up. Well…It wasn’t the same cube. Sure, it was close—it even had the same name—but not the same. Besides being sold (albeit for free) by a different store, the cube had a slightly different look than the one at Hivemind and didn’t feature built-in scripted sit poses.
Back to Hivemind I went. For lack of ability to rez objects, I had to slap the freebie onto my leg (clunky, but cute, eh?) .
From the pics below, what would you say? Was there a Weighted Companion Cube building seminar that I missed?
Shoes: SOREAL, City Steps Sneakers
Pants: Refuge, Leather Pants – Red
Bikini top: TorridWear, 2.0 Bikini Top (Red)
Shirt: Ce_Cubic effect, Tunic D5_Shirt
Skin: Fleur, Vivant, Chestnut Chaton 3
Hair: SOREAL, Original Rasta Bun V2
Eyelashes: RaC, Mascara Lashes 01 Black, Dramatic
Eyes: House of Zen, Freebie Eyes package, green 5
Legwarmers: Philotic Energy, dirty legwarmer
Belt: EKO, db Belt (f)
The weighted companion cube I made has been a full perms freebie on SLX for some time now. Nice to see that someone was able to make one that is lower prim. I made mine by importing the object file from the game (Portal) into Lightwave and then used a tool that basically made a sculptie map out of each piece.
If I calculated correctly the one I made should be identical to the one in the game in terms of size. Doesn’t mean the other one is bad, actually has cleaner lines than mine.

There’s only so much you can do when you’re copying this:

I think the freebie from Neural Blankes is closer, but the one for sale at Hivemind might be less prims, which is a plus if you’re using it as furniture.
